Treasury Secretary Bessent defended all CDFI Fund programs in response to the president’s executive order in March, and budget talks for 2026 look positive. The House Appropriations Subcommittee approved $276 million for FY 2026, and we expect the Senate to potentially push for a higher dollar amount.

This means now is the time for CDFI credit unions to be thinking about grant applications, and mission-driven credit unions like MDIs/LIDs to be thinking about becoming CDFIS.
